After 2 weeks of cricket being washed out, White Hills will be hoping its 3rd time lucky tomorrow when we host Kangaroo Flat at Glen Loddon Homes oval. The match was originally scheduled to be a two day clash but as a result of the recent rain, has been changed to a one day match.
The Demons go into the 2016/17 season with plenty of confidence after reaching the semi final last year and will be keen to repeat, if not better that effort this season. Normally the Demons/Roos clash is often held at the end of the season, however this year we take on the roos straight away. While White Hills have lost bowlers Travis Colley and Will Schofield, it shouldn’t be too much of a worry with coach Rhys Irwin, skipper Mitch Winter-Irving, Myles Wade and Corey Dickins forming the attack. With the bat, the Demons will be expecting the top 4 to replicate last seasons efforts with Gavin Bowles, Sam Stagg, Winter-Irving and Ryan Grundy having good seasons with the bat. David Blume returns to the club and will provide some stability in the middle order while Ollie Geary and Josh Matthews don’t need to spend a long time at the crease to have an impact.
Demons fans will remember the final round clash at Dower Park last season where it was a disaster with the Roos taking all 20 wickets although only narrowly coming away with the win. The Roos arguably boast the best new ball combination in the league with skipper Brent Hamblin and Adam Burns while leg spinner Chris Barber did plenty of damage last season on his way to 45 wickets.
Kangaroo Flat got the better of White Hills in both games last season and the Demons will be doing everything possible to start the season off with a win. If White Hills are to finish in the top 4 again, these are the games that need to be won.
Meanwhile White Hills will be sporting new one day kits this season with the all red combination gone and a lot more black/grey this season. Thanks to Breach Apparel for their efforts.
B grade will travel to Kangaroo Flat tomorrow and look to continue the momentum they finished with at the end of last season when they convincingly defeated Kangaroo Flat by 130 runs. With skipper Linc Jacobs back full time now, the B grade appears to have better depth with the inclusion of Tom Schultz (returning) , Englishman Jack Rodgers as well as Joe Hartney from United. Youngster Ben Daley will also make his B grade and take the gloves. With the Roos also naming a strong line up, this has the makings of classic match.
